Photos Of Fiona Shaw Masterclass

This is a selection of some of the photographs from a Shakespeare masterclass Fiona Shaw gave at the Theatre Royal Haymarket earlier in the year. Fiona worked with individual actors and pairs on monologues and duologues from three different Shakespeare plays. Fiona got the actors to breakdown the patterns in which they had learnt the text to get totally fresh and more interesting interpretations. Fiona also took questions from the audience.

Photos Of Claire Bloom Masterclass

In July Claire Bloom gave a masterclass at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in London. She was interviewed by Geoff Coleman, head of acting at Central School Of Speech and Drama. Selected clips were shown from films she has featured in and she talked about working with various actors including Charlie Chaplin and Lawrence Olivier. This also included how acting styles have changed over the years.

The Early Bird Production Photos

Following on from the blog I posted a few weeks ago with early publicity photos from The Early Bird these are some of the rehearsal photographs from the same production. The play was performed earlier in the year at the Finborough Theatre in London and stars just two actors Catherine Cusack and Alex Palmer. Directed by Donnacadh O'Briain the play is about when two parents daughter disappears. Debbie and Jack face every parent’s nightmare when their child disappears, leaving them to deal with a gaping hole that’s been left in their lives forever. The Early Bird journeys deep inside the troubled minds and fractured relationship of an ordinary couple, unlocking the door to the darkest corners of the human mind.

Adam Hardings Headshot Session

Adam has recently been studying acting for film and TV with an American teacher. Having already acted in a number of short films which some of have been screened at film festivals around the country and others that have been shot at the well respected Bournemouth film course, he was looking to renew his headshots which would help him secure more castings. Because of his work commitments we shot at a weekend and had met up on a previous weekend to discuss what he was looking for and answer any questions he might have including what clothes to bring along to the session and some general advice and tips to getting the most out of the shot.

The Early Bird Press Photos

These are some of the early publicity photos I took in January of 'The Early Bird' written by Leo Butler before the set was complete. They were used for early press and publicity use. As they needed to be taken against a black backdrop but still required to look like they were production photos rather than posed photos in a studio it was decided to find a theatre space.

Robert Barfoot Headshots

Robert Barfoot is coming back into the industry after a 5 year break. I took his new headshots recently in Bath. Robert wanted to have two sets of headshots taken on the day, one with his beard and another with it shaven off. This was to maximise his range of playing roles. So half way through we took a break whilst Robert shaved it off. Later on I was told Roberts dog did a double take when he got home as he did not at first recognise him! Robert originally trained at the Academy Drama School in London.

These are some of the photographs I took last year for Aldateateret who are a Norwegian theatre company. The production is called Gilgamesh. It is a 5000 years old story of a king who thinks he is immortal. He was the king of Uruk in Babylonia which is what is now known as part of Iraq. He lived in about 2700 BC.

The production was being workshoped in a dance studio in London for four days before I photographed it and was partly funded by the Norwegian Arts Council. The team of people that worked on the production are martial artists, gymnasts, dancers, musicians and physical theatre specialists and were chosen for their skills, to perform fights as a tool to tell the story.

Robert Addie and Hamlet

A while ago Magdalena Sakowska from Addie's Faction (a Robert Addie website fan club) asked me to write something for the 5th anniversary of Robert addie's passing. At the time I could not think of what to write but then talked to Magdalena later and suggested writing something about the day before Rob's first play as a director opened which was Friday March 7th 2003. Yesterday I got a timely reminder from Magdalena that today was Rob's 50th Birthday.

These are some of the photographs from the pupperty workshop at the recent TheatreCraft 2009 careers fair at the London Coliseum. The workshop was run by two of the students from Central School of Speech and Drama, on the 3 year degree course, Joanna Hruby and Irena Stratieva. One of the teachers, Caroline Townsend was also there. The workshop gave people who are interested in puppetry the opportunity to try the puppets out, with guidance from Joanna and Irena.
