Photos Of Joss Ackland Masterclass


This is a selection of some of the photographs taken at an actors masterclass that Joss Ackland gave at "Masterclass" at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in London in July.

He was interviewed on stage by Jeff Coleman of the Centre School of Speech and Drama where Joss Ackland had originally trained. The interview was broken up with clips that were shown from various films and television programmes Joss has stared in. Some stills were also shown from the production of Evita by Andrew Lloyd Webber, whilst a song that Joss Ackland performed in the musical was played. One of the film clips that was played was 'Daisies In December' where Joss co-started with Jean Simmons. This is a British made film made film that is very rarely seen in the UK but was a great success in America.

Joss talked extensively about his acting career and also about his wife Rosemary Kirkcaldy, who died in 2002, after they had been married for fifty one years. He talked about their book that is being published 'My Better Half and Me'.

Part the way through the Masterclass Greta Scacchi came in and sat in the audience to watch the rest of the interview.

Joss's work includes Television Movies and Mini-series including C.S Lewis in Shadowlands, Alan Holly in First and Last, Gerald Carmody in Daisies in December, Bondachuk in Citizen X, Archie in Voices in the Garden, Barrett in The Barretts of Wimpole Street, Isaac in The Bible, Aristotle Onassis in A Woman named Jackie, Cummings in Ashenden, Sir Burton in Queenie, Martin van de Vurst in Heat of the Sun, Terence Fielding in A Murder of Quality, Jerry Westerby in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, Hermann Goering in The Man who lived at the Ritz, etc. etc. At Christmas he will appear as Wizard Rudcully in Terry Pratchett’s The Hogfather.

In 1961, after three years with the Old Vic Company, he became artistic director at the Mermaid Theatre.

He has played opposite Jean Simmons (three times), Claire Bloom (four times), Ingrid Bergman, Glynis Johns, Greta Scacchi, Lauren Bacall, Anouk Aimee, Barbara Cook, Dorothy Tutin, Denholm Elliot and many many more.
