The Early Bird Press Photos

These are some of the early publicity photos I took in January of 'The Early Bird' written by Leo Butler before the set was complete. They were used for early press and publicity use. As they needed to be taken against a black backdrop but still required to look like they were production photos rather than posed photos in a studio it was decided to find a theatre space.

Originally the photos were going to be taken in December but due to the snow the two actors Catherine Cusack and Alex Palmer got stuck in France and could not get back in time. A new date was arranged between Christmas and the New Year but the weather struck again and this time the director Donnacadh O'Briain could not leave Northern Ireland as the ferry could not dock. Another date was now arranged for January and it was decided to use The Canal Cafe Theatre at night after the play that was on at the time finished. Quite amazingly heavy snow was forecast for the evening which was to start at 10 o'clock. We were now beginning to think 'are we ever going to be able to get these photos taken or will be beaten by the weather yet again!' Determined not to be, we started at 9 o'clock and set are self's a limit of an hour. In the end this was plenty of time and sure enough just after 10 the snow started but this no longer mattered as we had our photographs.
